Jeff Matthews, who has taught a fraud examination course at UTA the last two semesters, received the Certified Fraud Examiner of the Year Award on Jduring the annual meeting of the ACFE in Las Vegas. The ACFE is the world s largest anti-fraud organization with more than 66,000 members from 160 countries. I am also excited to report that one of our adjunct faculty was the recipient of a national award by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Jeanne Smith, won two of the three College of Business Alumni awards this year during the 2013 Business Alumni and Service Awards ceremony on March 2, More information is provided on page 5. (continued on ) Click here for more detailsĢ GREETINGS FROM THE CHAIR cont d I am also proud to announce that our accounting alumni, Mr. Skantz was also the recipient of the Distinguished Research Publication and honored with the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Jap Efendi and Terry Skantz were recipients of the summer faculty fellowships for their publications in The Accounting Review. During the COB 2013 spring meeting several accounting faculty were recognized for teaching and research. He advised students to be happy, humble and to treat others with respect. Jim Spaniolo, who was attending his last commencement as President of UTA. We had 60 students graduating with a BBA or BS degree and 26 students graduating with a Masters degree. Spring 2013 commencement was a truly wonderful event for accounting students, families and friends. Through the generosity of our donors, more than 40 highly qualified and deserving students received scholarships, which was an increase of more than 50% compared to last year.

Croson provided some of her vision on the future of business dealing with technology issues, privacy issues, and how to make what we teach in business schools relevant because it will affect everyone s quality of life. We were honored to have Dean Croson as the keynote speaker. On April 27 th 2013, we had our annual spring banquet and awards program. We are also adding an additional law course in the graduate program for accounting majors. BLAW I and II will continue to be taught as electives. This course is expected to provide a much broader view of the legal environment we face today. Starting in 2014, we will be changing the required undergraduate class for business students to BLAW 3310, Legal and Ethical Environment of Business. For many years all business majors have been required to take BLAW 3311, LAW I, which was primarily based on teaching the US uniform commercial code. A big change that affects the Department of Accounting is the move of the Business Law faculty and courses into the Department in fall As part of this move, we have spent much time reviewing our offerings in this field. She has been working on a strategic plan for the college and has already instituted some changes within the college. Rachel Croson arrived as Dean for the College of Business.
